Seven Abominations of YHWH (Part 1 Pride) Dr. Himie Pickett
This is the first part of a seven part exhortation pertaining to the seven abominations of YHWH. For subsequent parts, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Let’s examine the Scriptures:
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. ESV
The first abomination of YHWH is pride. YHWH hates pride or a proudful look, because pride advocates man and not YHWH. A prideful spirit depoils (robs) YHWH of the praise that He deserves. A prideful spirit despoils YHWH of the glory due Him for gracing you with your ability to do what you have done.
The first instance of pride or a proudful look came from Satan: Isaiah 14:12-14 and Ezekiel 28:12-18.
Pride will render you just as Satan is; you will be alienated from the face of YHWH. Because, you won’t be thinking about YHWH, He will not think about you favorably. You will fall from Grace to disgrace:
Psalms10:3-4 For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the LORD. In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
Proverbs 11:1-2 A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.
If we are not careful to avoid pride, we will fall, and the thing(s) in which we were prideful will be taken from us.
Proverbs 16:19 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
YHWH will deliver us, gift us, heal us, and prosper us. However, we have to be mindful not to succunb to the temptation to be prideful and think we delivered, gifted, healed, or prospered ourselves.
YHWH has admonished us that He is not going to share His glory with another:
Isaiah 48:6-8 I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes,to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. I am the Lord: that is my name:and my glory will I not give to another.
YHWH will punish the prideful: Isaiah 2:12 For the Lord of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought low.
YHWH controverts (opposes) the prideful, but He gives Grace to the humble: James 4:6-7 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
My friend eschew (hate) and avoid pride in every manner. Never sport the look of pride.
At the point of tears, I admonish you that YHWH hates pride and a pridedful look:
Proverbs 8:13 YHWH says “…Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.”
